Take the time to follow up
Its very crucial that you or someone in your business follows up promptly to new and old leads. You never know what you could be missing out on.
Remember one day a lead might not need your services, but a few months down the road those needs can change. So make sure you keep your brand in front of them and let them know your there.
Review Your Marketing
Sometimes you feel its difficult to see if your marketing is paying off or not. These simple steps will give you a better handle on that.
Take a look at your income- For starters your sales should be going up. Depending on your business and what industry you are in will determine what other factors you look at. Some of these factors are : How many leads your generating, are your billable hours also increasing with your sales, if you run a hotel do you see an increase in phone and online reservations etc. Make sure you look at all venues that will measure income.
Ask your Customers- Most business loose out on this becuase they just don't do it. Why not ask your new customers or leads how they found out about you? This right here will let you know if some of your marketing is paying off or not.
Do your Promotions Produce Direct Sales- When your running a special, or a promotion of a certain product of service, does it generate the fast direct response that your looking to acheive? If not then the venues your using are not working that well for this kind of advertisement.
Is your Marketing helping you sell?- Your marketing should be focused around your brand, product and services and should really give the potential client a great look what what your offering. If your marketing dosent reflect your brand, product and services then your just throwing money down the drain.
Check your competition- Look around and see what your competition is doing. I know that most of us want to be unique but when your competition is taking business away from you then you need to see what they are doing, and what you can do to get the upper hand. It dosent hurt to talk to your competition to see what marketing venues works for them. You will be surprised to see how many managers out there like to talk and boast on how they are raising sales for their business.

Hotels, airlines offer treats to lure customers :: Hotel News Resource
Some hotels are taking a approach to luring customers by offering free treats, or small gifts as a promotion. This does cost money to your bottom line, but it does not hurt your value and pricing in the future.

Sales VS Marketing Which one is superior?
There are 3 ways to market your business but only one proper way works with good results. One way you could market your business is just by doing that. Market! Post ads, pass out fliers, radio, online etc. What happens after all that? The customers go to your site, they call you they want to buy what ever your offering but do they? More then likely only a small amount of them will.
Another way to direct sale your business. Make contacts get out there and realy talk to people face to face, educating them on your product or service. Do you get results that way? Yes but its the same as just marketing your business. Only a small amount are going to purchase your items or services, unless you run into a direct need. People need to know about your brand and need to be reminded that its still out there. Other wise they will just put your card in their roledex and when it comes time for them to buy they will most likely go with the company that has brand recognition, proper marketing, and a great sales presence.
So all 3 techniques need to go hand in hand with your business. Market get recognized, and also stay fresh in consumers minds. Have trained sales staff or yourself out selling your product or services. You will see alot more results and more impact on your BOI.

Do They Really Understand?
These are some really basic tips that we all forget sometimes when we think of what needs to be known and what dosent in managing our business. Well really as your bottom line should be information that just about everybody knows! Espically your front line, your Customer Service Reps or Client Account managers, what ever your title is for these positions you need to keep them more informed on the costs of their jobs. This way they will want to be more productive if they think they are a profit center. It gives them the feeling of belonging and they are important.
Go into work tomorrow and try this new approach. Start information loading with your employees and create it in steps. Teach something with each new peice of information. Example: Start with your managers on employee rentention. Then work your way down. Take the step that you constantly enforce quality with your client and customers. Remember to stress that no matter what customer walks in the door they get the same great fantastic service that you give to everyone that walks in the door. Dont leave room for slips, hold them accountable and when you stressing the dos and donts make sure to give them the information to make them feel powerful in making great changes with the company. Like ok rention costs us a lot to retain current customers. What we need to do is take step 1 and do this. So it will save us this amount of money.
It use to be in the past that we would hide information from our emloyees because we thought it was protecting company formulas, but its hard for quality employees to do quality work with out quality information. Dont think that if you teach someone what you know it will back fire on you. It wont it will in deed help you succeed.

Back Links To Your Site
Why having back links to your site does help with your rankings its only a small piece of the pie in marketing your business.
There are sites that allow you to do this legally and you will need to be careful on what companies you choose to have your site linked too. I learned this the hard way a while back and found my site was linked to various sites that didn't even come close to my targeted audience. So don't just add links to be adding links. Yes it will get you exposure but it wont bring you the customers you want. You will be just wasting your time.

Dropping Out of Your MLM
Before you drop out of your MLM business or Affiliate business you want to think about a few things before doing so.
1. Did you already spend alot of time and work at your MLM say 6 months or more?
If you have spent 6 months or more working your current MLM and have set up Social Networking profiles, advertised on forums, have talked to a few people and even maybe signed up some leads. You dont want to quit now. You have started what is called on the net your spider web of your information. This information is out on the web sometimes forever! People are still going to your links, and getting on your site but the bad thing is you quit and those people that have finally made a decision to join a MLM are doing so and your upline is raking in the benefits. 9 Years ago I did this same mistake and then received a check for $4.00. I was wondering where this small check came from and then I found out it was from a MLM that I was in and quit after 7 months. I then found out that my information was eventually taken off and my upline was making thousands!!! off of my work and getting it all and I was getting nothing. We live and learn and I will not make that same mistake.
If you are wanting to take a break from your MLM business make sure to stay some what active and keep low key marketing by placing links, and still keep posting once a day on your Social Networking sites because you dont want to miss out on a windfall for when it comes.
2. Do you pay a monthly or yearly fee for your MLM? If you dont then why quit?
Like I said above take a break espcially if your not paying any money to belong to your current MLM. You could be giving someone else free money for all of your hard work. Taking a break from your business could give you the rest and energy to go back at it and could give you some great insight on what you are currently doing whether it works or not. This is a great time to do some training and research on what others are doing. You can then take it to your own style and make it yours and reap the rewards.
3. Do you have great marketing support from your Network?
If you have people that are interested in you and showing you support by giving you ideas and suggestions its not time to quit. It takes time to build a good network of other business owners that are willing to give you free suggestions. Don't be branded as a quitter because most of these people wont work with you again.
Don't be a quitter. Did Donald Trump quit? Did President Obama quit? Did other past greates quit when things got tough for them? NO they didnt. Mistakes and dissapointments are just learning curves that will eventually make you stronger and smarter.
Take a break but dont quit! You could be close to realizing your dream.
MLM As a Home Based Business
MLM home based business's are legal and a great way to start a business from home. Why not make money sitting at home and working on your computer, making your own personal visits to prospects if you choose to do so, or getting something that is automated and you just market? Nothing!! Studies are showing more and more people during these economic times are turning to MLM to star their own home based business.
MLM is where a mother company decides to recruit other members to then also recruit other members for their services. Why the mother company makes a crap load of cash they also manage to pay monthly commissions to their reps at home as well. Now you can make a lot of money by being in volved with a legal MLM business but don't think it will happen over night. It takes lots of time and effort to successfuly get a MLM business up and going. With proper training, dedication, and effort you can be making large amounts of money.
Now this isnt for everybody. You must have the energy to succeed in this business. The time to spend on it, and know that if you are only going to work a few hours aday marketing your business it will take 6 months to a year before you start seeing any money action. This can be done though so if you only have that much time then just keep focused and think positive. It took me 6 months to finally make my first sale but I wouldnt trade that time now for any amount of money in the world.
If your conisdering doing an online business or MLM check out this nifty little system we use. It pays out weekly and has some of the new age marketing points to it such as an auto responder, capture pages and more! Then once you get the system check out the training that we used from the MLM Master Mike Dillard. His training is top notch in the industry and is a must for any MLM business owner.

Monday Plan
When you make your sales and marketing plan make sure to keep it on top of your desk. Or a file that you look at constantly. DO NOT PUT IT IN A FILE DRAWER AND NEVER PULL IT OUT. If you do this you are more likely not to look at it. You should look at your marketing plan at least once every two weeks to make sure you are on track of goals and projects.
Another great task to do on Monday is drop some lines in your network funnel on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or any other Social Networking site you belong to. If you dont do Social Networking then you could be missing out on alot of revenue!

Ways to Increase your Retail Sales
Step 1: Getting to know your Customer- Make sure that you or your Manager are visible to your customers now more then ever. Its very important to find out what your customers are spending their money on. Pass out a survey to see where your customers are spending and on what. This will help you in the long run to better serve your customers and will give you a piece of mind that your being proactive.
Step2: Overhaul Your Inventory: Right now in a bad economy your inventory is the major cost factor in your business. You are probably asking why? Well if your in the retail business your cost of goods can tie up your money or can make you money. You need to evaluate your inventory on a weekly basis during these economic times. During a normal economic time you would do this monthly or even quarterly. Weekly is a must do right now. You need to ask yourself if you are buying too much of a certain item and not enough of a different item. What is selling? What is not selling? Do you need to move something that is selling in other parts of the country to a different place of the store? Are your customers finding what they need right away?
These major questions are critical to your business right now. Make sure you are keeping up with this with out fail. Its very important.
Step 3 Boost your E- Commerce Marketing - Its very necessary that your business is online in some way, shape or form. We are going to assume it is. If its not then you need to hire yourself a marketing consultant such as myself or look in your yellow pages. Almost every business now a days needs to have some sort of online presence and need to have it be found at least by an online directory.
1. Make sure all of your contact information, hours etc are correct everywhere your business is advertise. Google your business to find out where you are being listed at.
2. Start an online newsletter to make sure your current customers are up to date about your business and promotions that are yet to be announced.
3. Make a email list of your current customers. If you already have one then start sending out weekly emails that promote certain items. Let them know what your carrying and what is sales are underway.
4. If you have a website make sure its easy for people to maneuver around it. Make sure you have a contact us page so people that aren't familiar with online buying or your website can still contact you to purchase something they seen on your site.
5. Spend a little money on GEO Targeting for your business. Get your name out to the millions. Let me tell you that there are more people sitting in front of their computers now a days on Facebook, Myspace etc then there were last year due to unemployment. Get your business in front of them now. They are still purchasing for special events, and wont be unemployed long.
Major thing to keep boosting your retail sales is that you don't want to get stagnant and you don't want to find your self in a slump along with your sales. If you get out there and work hard, and communicate with your customers and do some small changes and make sure you market your business responsibly you will see a increase in your sales instead of them falling.

Marketing Your Brand With You Tube
You Tube is becoming a very powerful source of advertising. You can push individual products but the power of You Tube would be wasted by doing that. You want to market your Brand which will cover it all... Right?
Large business have been doing video marketing for some years and have found them just as effective as TV advertising. The one thing with video marketing is the cost. You can video market your business with little to no money! TV advertising could cost a small business a fortune.
Millward Brown who does phone research for large fortune 500 companies did a study that showed online videos are better at imparting brand awareness then traditional TV ads. The reason for this is that online viewers are more engaged then TV viewers. I mean come on when your searching for something online your going to view it, read it, and watch it. When your watching TV your getting ads during a certain point of time that you did not ask for. Making sense?
If you do decide to use You Tube for product advertising make sure you keep the video informative, entertaining, and do a lot of close up shots on the products. Make sure to link your website so a consumer can go to it for more information and also see what else you have to offer.
You Tube can be great for Direct Sales. All you have to do is promote your product and services get the audience really interested and then direct them to your website or store.
You can also use You Tube for product support. Consider some of the most commonly asked questions about your product and services and then create an online video and answer them.
You Tube can also be a great recruiting tool. Make a welcome video about your Brand and tell them how it will benefit them and then send them to your website.
Making an online video can take some time with planning, creating and taping the video. Make sure to take your time because I have seen some poor videos and that left me with a poor taste in my mouth for the Brand and the person.
You Tube is great for promoting a Brand, your website, your products, and even if you run a large business with multiple locations why not make a video directory.
Just another powerful marketing tool.

Marketing In A Recession
There are plenty of low cost marketing techniques that a lot of companies don’t take advantage of. These techniques can also deliver more punch then the new.
1. Face to Face Contact- Go out in your community and introduce yourself and your business.
2. Local News Paper- Read your local newspaper for leads. YES your local newspaper can have loads of new leads depending on your business.
3. Local Chamber- Join your local chamber. This does have a cost of any where from $200 to $ 600 depending on your community. Its well worth the money to be able to know what is going on in your community and to network with other business owners and managers. These people will either use or purchase your services or they will refer people who will.
These are just a few suggestions on low cost marketing. If you don’t have time then delegate it to a seasoned team member. The old saying from the field of dreams “If you build it they will come.” IS NOT TRUE!

Customer Service In a Recession
During economic times people are getting picky on where and what they spend their hard earned money on. They start paying attention more to the kind of service they receive when visiting a store, or vendor. Its so important that you and all of your team realize that the main focus of your business is the customer. I am not talking about customers as a whole but each individual that looks at your web page, walks into your store, calls your business is a very important piece of the pie.
Lets say you own or manage a retail store that sells items that people really need. One thing to take into consideration there are very few business's out there that have a unique item that nobody else carries that we all need. Right? Of course I am right. So when you have a customer that calls on you and you ignore the call or don't return the call right away, what just happened? You just lost revenue! For all of you managers that let your calls go to voicemail 90% of the time you are losing revenue. WAKE UP ! Now its been proven that most consumers are impulse buyers so when they are looking for a service, or item to purchase they usually want to get it now. So when you don't get back to the customer that left you a message a hour ago, 3 times out of 5 they have taken their business to your competitor. So that takes us to Rule #1.

Keeping it Real
I know its been a long time since I have written but its been so damn busy trying to keep up with everything with all the leads that have been flooding in. I just want to remind people during these tough economic times that its very important to stay true and not to get too greedy and take advantage of people during desperate times.
I had one lead yesterday that I talked too on the phone for over an hour and found out that she has been taken by so many scams since being laid off from her job last month that her savings is almost gone. It was really a sad situation.
I just want to say help your leads and team, and don't think because some people are desperate to change their lives that their an easy target. Karma is a bitch!

Sales Call
Assuming you have already done your homework on example client Adam E. We will get right to the steps of making the first contact with client.
Now Adam E loves to fish, and take his family camping. In this example Adam E. is worth to my company is 44,000 a month. So I am going to kiss Adam E butt right off the bat. I went and purchased a nice $5.00 lure that I know that a fishing fanatic like Adam would love.
Now I have already did the cold call on this client hense how I got the information. I have an scheduled appointment with Adam E right now. I walk into the office and give the gate keeper an apple with my business card on it. In this example I will be selling my Eastman Technology business and promoting Dish Network TV. So right there I made a positive contact with the gate keeper who does watch cable tv in her spare time. See where I am going with this? Free Marketing!! Ok I tell her who I am and let her know that I have an appointment with Adam E.
Of Course she asks me to have a seat and Adam will be right with me. Now remember you could be waiting passed the appointment time. You are there to sell your product not the other way around. So always remember this!!!
Adam comes in and gets me, we make a firm hand shake and go to his office. When we are both seated I told him I heard that he loves to fish. He smiles and immediately points to the mounted trophies on the wall behind him. Well I would like to extend this as a token of you speaking with me today. I hand him the lure. Right there he is excited you talked about him and a sport he loves. HE HAS YOUR ATTENTION!!! Here you present your brand. Tell him about the brand and how it will help him and his business. Hand him a folder or whatever marketing material you brought for this call and end it with I know your busy, so I will leave this with you and let you look it over. I will give you a call in a week to follow up and answer any questions you might have.
Here you will get a feed back physically to let you know if he is interested. The feed back could be the expression on his face, the way he departs with you etc. Adam was very happy when we departed so I am definately going to mark this as a HOT LEAD. I will definately follow up with Adam with a full proposal in hand, and once I am done taking any questions he may have, I will present him with an offer as long as its still with in our conversation. Once fielding questions you might want to go back re consider your offer and make a different approach. Remember to get a good peice of business you might have to back and call on them 8 times before you get this far. Its just a rule of thumb. SO DONT GET DISCOURAGE on your NOs!!! It just means not right now. YOU HAVE TO GET INTO THIS MIND SET IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE SUCESSFUL IN DIRECT SALES!!!! YOU HAVE TOO!!!

Swinging Into Action Part II
We touched base on finding new trends, being a trend setter, and Rapport building. Rapport building I cant stress enough. Its almost crucial now this day and age. You must be able to build a good rapport with your potential client and maintain a good rapport with your current clients.
So not to get off this subject all together I do want to mention something. This too has a bit to do about rapport building. I have made a lot of new contacts in the last few weeks and I can so tell that they are new to business and marketing all together. I try to write back a nice thank you or a warm welcome to a new contact and I do nothing to mention my buisness except for my signature line that has my website and my normal contact information. I get the response back saying thank you but have you seen my site, opportunity or know what my buisness can do for you. What do I say?? Well I try to respond back personally and then in return get a nother here choke on my business that I am too cheap to buy a domain name for // 23949 something. LOL .. Sorry yes I am getting testy about the new network marketers. I shouldnt really but what I dont understand is that there are professionals like me that are willing to offer some insight. Unfortunately I think that about 85 percent of network marketers think that their product is superior and there upline who can be jo blow the plumber is the best business man ever! Well I can honestly say for a fact that out of that 85 percent only 15 percent are proably making any decent money. Where is the rapport with me by constantly responding back with choking me on your buisness? It gets the email deleted after a few times and I dont even glance at it again! There are millions out there like me that will be deleting your 3rd or 4th email that might finally have a hello im mike from cedar rapids iowa lets talk about hiking or something like that. DELETED! Never again to hear from you or about your business.. and what is lost? A potential customer that could of brought you 10 more customers.
So I cant stress enough take some time out of your busy schedule and start rapport building if you are going to want to stay in business longer then 3 years.
It all goes back to being aggressive with making a plan! Always have a detailed sales and marketing plan written for your business that you can amend every now and then and include a budget. YES A BUDGET! Im not going to give you any hype what so ever. I hate when people feed me bull and I am not going to start doing it now. YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND EITHER TIME OR MONEY TO MAKE YOUR BUSINESS SUCESSFUL!!! TIME OR MONEY!!! SOMETIMES BOTH!!!! It all up to you on how sucessful you are wanting to be.
So think a lot about what could be the new trend, pay attention to you current customers feelings and emotions on certain subjects, build rapport with people, evulate your sales verses your marketing plan, keep thinking as a industry leader. If you dont think that your a leader then you will protray as just a another MLM follower. NEVER LIE. This right here will hurt your credibility forever!
Lets get back on task here towards the end. I will come back to this blog post again in the future and will put together from start to finish a sales call from prospecting to cold calling, to rapport building to making the presentation, to closing the sale. However before I close this post tonight I want to touch prospecting a bit here. You can also call it Target Marketing. Now I am going to use the Hotel Industry again becuase I have a passion for it, and that is where my education is extensive in.
You have a sales and marketing budget? Do you want to blow that marketing budget to whatever just to be marketing? Yes and No. Let me explain. The reason I say yes is becuase some marketing is better then no marketing. For example: (Fiction of course as to the names of the hotels)
Marriot on westford ave decides in a bad economy that it will cut its marketing for a whole quarter. They tell the Director of Sales and Marketing that she or he is going to work the front desk and your department is being put on a hold for a few months. The marriot on westford ave is just 2 miles south of the Quality Inn on 33rd street. Jim Maggen is a business development director for a fortune 500 company that usually stays at Marriots (branding very crucial) but Jim is use to getting his monthly newsletter from the Marriot on Westford. Well it stops. Jim dosent get one for one month, and is planning on visiting the area to pick a hotel for the development crews that are comming in next month that will generate 300 room nights at a ADR of 58.00 a room during January. Well for those of you that dont understand the hotel buisness that is a lot of revenue that the Marriot lost on becuase Jim noticed a simple cost effective advertising tid bit from the Quality Inn on 33rd. Why did he notice this advertising? Becuase the Quality Inn on 33rd decided that they would prospect their new business and market to a smaller sector untill business picked back up. THERE MARKETING TO THE PEOPLE THAT WANT HOTEL ROOMS. Jim was prospected by the article that was published in the local news paper about the new super markets that were comming to the surrounding area. The Quality Inns Sales Manager noticed the article and wrote a personal letter. That only cost maybe 1.30 with paper, evenlope, business card, and postage. That generated thousands of dollars in room revenue during a slow month.
If you budget and target market you will have more sucess out of any marketing compaign, but remember if all you know how is to blast market and pay for anything or dont care where your advertising is going then you are still getting your name out. Just wont have as much bang for your buck.
Goes back to take your time, research, plan and then swing into action!
Have a good blessed weekend everyone!

Swinging into action
I get home tonight and do my normal routine of walking in the house going to the fridge for the soda, take off my outer shirt and sit at my computer and check my emails, forums etc. Well I joined a new networking site and totally been overwhelmed by it in the past couple of days. Very good site! I love it! Any how I was checking my email and was just hit with so much (what they call spam) what we call direct marketing in my mail box. Now in my novice years I too was guilty of this approach. After I was schooled by some of the most talented bosses I have ever worked for change my out look to the true techniques of Sales and Marketing.
Going straight to the subject:
You hear swinging into action and you automatically think agression, direct, go getter done! Well yeah thats the common conception of that word. Now what if I told you that Swinging into action is so much more. I am only going to cover the icing on the cake with this tonight becuase im pretty exhausted but will keep covering the subject in future blogs.
Sales and Marketing = To sell a product, service, get the word out, promote, etc you can add a lot more to this but have you ever thought trends, human resource, discovery, and emotion? No becuase you dont know how to utilize it with the agressive, take charge mentality that you think is good sales techniques.
Example 1 Trends- Now I know a lot of us have thought of trends becuase most of us that have truly been in this part of the business know that alot of times before a product is rolled out or cancelled or marketed in a different area we look at trend reports. One thing for a good Sales and Marketing Professional to do is constantly think about the future. My personal example on how I broke a trend in the profession was when I was the Sales Director for my first full service hotel. It was with online bookings. I predicted and fought with my superiors telling them that after 9-11 this source of revenue was going to be a larger source then it was now and we needed to jump on the band wagon. Well my superiors comming from the more of the stone age era didnt beilive that Internet Wholesaling sits would dominate 35 percent of Revenue for the hotel business in 2008. Thats a large chunk of change that Orbitz, Hotels.com, Expedia and so many more have taken advantage out of the Hospitality Industry. NOW REMEMBER! Thats just one new trend for one industry. Try to educate yourself on various industries. Not just the one you are currently in. Which goes to another topic of this subject.
Dont worry I am going to wrap this one up here really quick. Dont want to put anybody to sleep. Incase I have a few Sales and Marketing Pros reading Im sorry its short. I promise I will write more on it.
You A are the sales director for a full service hotel.
You are surrounded by 1. Airport 2. Milk factory 3. Millitary base 4. Nursing Home
These are some poor examples but you will get my point here in a few short sentences. Various Industries, has various people that have various interests. RAPPORT BUILDING!!!! Still will always be NUMBER 1 In Sales and Marketing. Know the industrie that you are selling too, and know the industrie that could some day call on your business.
I will write more on this topic again really soon. Good night!
